New Year’s Eve

on this side of the world
tonight is new year’s eve
on the other side of the world
tonight is just another eve
the sky is once again dark
people are hoping for the light to come
silently hopefully watchfully
waiting for the light to come and darkness no more.
only if compassion can be lived by all people
perhaps then we, too, will call new year’s eve “just another eve”
